Fremont, California - November 6, 2003 - Hurricane Electric, a leading Technical Service
Provider, announced today that it has increased the size of its connection to the LINX
exchange. This upgrade comes just weeks after Hurricane Electric expanded to Europe by
way of Telehouse London, one of the largest neutral Internet exchange points in
Europe.
Hurricane Electric is connected to Telehouse London with an OC48, which connects the UK to the rest of Hurricane Electric's global OC48 backbone, ranked among the top in the world. The recently added Point Of Presence (POP) creates redundancies to Hurricane Electric's global network and shortens packet routes to numerous other networks. Telehouse London, home to the LINX Network, where the vast majority of UK Internet traffic passes, became a highly trafficked point on Hurricane Electric's global network in a matter of a few weeks. "The overwhelming popularity of our LINX connection made it immediately apparent that we would need to increase the size of the link in order to give us better performance in Europe and over our entire network," said Mike Leber, Hurricane Electric president. "The growth we're experiencing in London surpassed our most optimistic estimates; its great to see the name that we've built state-side transcend globally." Hurricane Electric now employs two Gigabit Ethernet ports to the LINX exchange allowing Hurricane Electric to dramatically increase the amount of traffic it can handle and giving it the ability to peer with hundreds of networks, institutions and companies throughout Europe. Hurricane Electric customers benefit from this upgrade by experiencing more capacity, increased reliability and faster throughput. Because of rampant demand, Hurricane Electric is continuing to offer the two "Hello UK" specials for London based direct connections. The first is a full 100 Mbps Internet connection for $2,500 per month out of Telehouse (LINX) in London, UK. This offer is also available in Equinix Los Angeles, CA; Equinix Dallas, TX; and Equinix Chicago, IL. The second offer is flat rate Gigabit Ethernet transit (1,000 Mbps of IP) for $20,000 per month, available at Telehouse (LINX) in London, UK, as well as 6 other locations in the United States, including Equinix in Ashburn, VA; Equinix in San Jose, CA; Telehouse (NYIIX) in New York, NY; Switch and Data (PAIX) in Palo Alto, CA; Market Post Tower (55 South Market St.) in San Jose, CA; and Hurricane Electric's Fremont Facility (760 Mission Court) in Fremont, CA.
