Fremont, California - September 2, 2003 - Hurricane Electric, a leading Technical Service
Provider (TSP),
announced today that it has expanded its cross country network with OC12 circuits in the
Los Angeles, Dallas, and Chicago areas by adding Internet exchange points through a
partnership with Equinix Inc., a leading provider of core Internet exchange services.
The newly added exchange points will create redundancies to Hurricane Electric's
national
network, while creating shorter packet routes to numerous other networks.
We are working on expanding our network everyday," said Mike Leber, Hurricane Electric president. "Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago are all major metropolitan areas which are fundamental in the expansion of our network." "Our customers benefit from the new exchange points with additional capacity and more direct routes," Leber added. "With a surge in new clients and the forecast for the upcoming quarters, we not only wanted to grow our network in size, but also increase redundancy." Hurricane Electric is connected to these three Equinix exchange points using Cisco GSR core routers via Gigabit Ethernet. With the addition of the Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago exchange points, Hurricane Electric has strengthened its self-healing network architecture, which now includes eleven major exchange points around the nation. Internet Exchange Points are switching centers where ISPs and TSPs (Technical Service Providers) can connect to each other in order to exchange Internet traffic. Exchange points are located worldwide to ensure that packets traveling over the Internet will arrive at their destination via the shortest route possible. Hurricane Electric now offers direct connections in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Chicago. To celebrate the addition of the three exchange points, Hurricane Electric is offering full 100 Mbps Internet connections for $2,500 per month out of Equinix Los Angeles, CA, Equinix Dallas, TX, and Equinix Chicago, IL.
