Fremont, California - July 20, 2005 - Hurricane Electric, a leading Technical Service
Provider, announced
today that it has increased the size of its connection to the AMS-IX (The Amsterdam
Internet Exchange) exchange, one of Europe's largest neutral Internet exchange points.
This upgrade comes just six months after Hurricane Electric expanded its global network,
ranked among the top in the world, to the Amsterdam area.
Hurricane Electric upgraded its connection to the AMS-IX peering fabric from a Gigabit Ethernet port to a 10 Gigabit Ethernet port, making it one of only a handful of networks that employ a 10 Gigabit Ethernet port to the AMS-IX switch. This upgrade will dramatically increase the amount of traffic Hurricane Electric can handle over its network and will give it the ability to peer with many more participants at the AMS-IX exchange point. The upgrade will further develop its European connectivity and benefit its customers with more capacity, increased reliability, and faster throughput. "The growth we are experiencing in Europe is nothing short of extraordinary," said Mike Leber, Hurricane Electric president. "The popularity of the AMS-IX exchange, much like that of the LINX exchange at Telehouse London, required an almost immediate increase in the size of the link. We are committed to continuous improvement of our European connectivity." Hurricane Electric is experiencing tremendous growth across its entire network. The upgrade to the AMS-IX exchange follows the recent addition of a second exchange point in Los Angeles, CA. Last week Hurricane Electric announced its connection to the LAIIX exchange, a neutral and scalable peering infrastructure located in Telehouse Los Angeles. Hurricane Electric now employs a Gigabit Ethernet port to the LAIIX switch, which enhanced its overall connectivity on the U.S. West coast and further improved its Global OC48 backbone, ranked among the top in the world. To celebrate its expansion in Europe, Hurricane Electric is extending a special offer of flat rate Gigabit Ethernet transit (1,000 Mbps of IP) for $13,000 per month. This special offer is available at two locations in Europe: NIKHEF (AMS-IX) Amsterdam, NL and Telehouse (LINX) in London, UK. The offer is also available at ten locations in the United States: Switch and Data (PAIX) in Palo Alto, CA; Equinix in Ashburn, VA; Equinix in Chicago, IL; Equinix in Dallas, TX; Equinix in Los Angeles, CA; Equinix in San Jose, CA; Telehouse (NYIIX) in New York, NY; Telehouse (LAIIX) in Los Angeles, CA; Hurricane Electric in San Jose, CA; and Hurricane Electric in Fremont, CA.
